Saunderson House is delighted to announce that Dame Kate Barker will be joining Saunderson House as a Consultant and member of the Saunderson House Investment Committee.

She will enhance the committee by providing economic expertise and insight.

The role of the Saunderson House Investment Committee is to scrutinise and challenge recommendations made by the specialists in our Investment Research team; therefore the diversity of experience within this group is important to ensure robustness in our decision-making. It comprises of individuals with a variety of professional backgrounds and expertise covering economics, politics and financial.

Commenting on her appointment, Chairman of the Investment Committee, Ian McNally says:

“As a former member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, Kate Barker’s experience will prove invaluable to the Saunderson House Investment Committee, and from an economics perspective, will help shape our future decision making”.

Kate Barker is a business economist.  She now has a plural career, including as a non-executive director of Taylor Wimpey plc and Man Group plc.  She was appointed as chairman of trustees for the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme in 2014, and is a trustee of the Yorkshire Building Society pension fund.

She is a member of the National Infrastructure Commission, and chairman of the Jersey Fiscal Policy Panel.  Since 2017 she has been a member of Council at Oxford University.

Kate was Chief Economic Adviser at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in the 1990s, and then became a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) from 2001 until May 2010. During this period, she led two major policy reviews for Government, on housing supply and on land use planning.
